Austin Herb Society presents ‘Spring Clean Your Garden’
Saturday, ‘Feb. 29
as part of TWiG: Talks & Walks in the Garden at Zilker Botanical Garden
It’s time to “Spring Clean Your Garden” with tips and techniques presented by the Austin Herb Society from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 29 in the Zilker Herb Garden at Zilker Botanical Garden, 2220 Barton Spring Road. This free class is part of the Austin Herb Society’s educational series, TWiG: Talks & Walks in the Garden, which offers free interactive workshops on gardening with an emphasis on herbs.
Speaker and longtime Austin Herb Society member Kate Alsobrook will discuss why spring cleaning is important and how to successfully tackle a variety of vital tasks, including dealing with old mulch, making amendments to soil and pruning perennials. She will also offer advice on the best garden tools for the job and how to keep them clean and sharp. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the Zilker Herb Garden and learn about the many varieties of herbs grown there.
In the coming months, TWiG will address such topics as seasonal herbs, pruning and gardening techniques. Water conservation will also be discussed, including the benefits of drip irrigation, mulch and compost to keep gardens healthy.
TWiG attendance is included with regular admission to Zilker Botanical Garden. Current admission rates can be found online at www.zilkergarden.org.
